BOGODA WOODEN BRIDGE

BOGODA TEMPLE

Bogoda Bridge is more than 400 years old, is the oldest wooden bridge to be standing in Sri Lanka. The bridge was built in 16th century during the Dambadeniaya Era and was built by the King Walagambahu. Bogoda temple is another hiding place of one of our greatest king, Valagambahu who was organizing army to fight against invading South Indians. After winning the war he ordered all the caves where he got shelter to be converted to cave temples.It is on the road from Badulla to Kandy through Welimada. The adjoining temple dates back even  further. Bogoda bridge and the Buddhist temple is situated nearby at Hali-Ela in Badulla district. The main attraction here is the old wooden bridge which belongs to the Dambadeniya Kingdom Era (1220–1354 AD). This bridge is constructed to cross the Loggal Oya.
